Counseling for Children & Teens

Counseling with children and teens is an interactive process . . . utilizing play, art, games, and music in the session.  Does your child or teen experience any of the following:

  • Anxiousness, fears, sadness or worry that hinders daily activities at home or school?
  • Social difficulties, bullying, or social anxiety?
  • Angry outbursts or challenging behaviors?
  • Separation anxiety?
  • Nightmares?
  • Trauma history?
  • Grief from death of a loved one (including a loved pet)?
  • Self-Injurious behaviors (such as cutting) or thoughts of self-harm?
  • Low self-esteem?
  • Experimentation in risky behaviors?
  • Family conflict issues?

If you answered yes to any of these, or if your child/teen just needs to a safe place to talk through their thoughts and feelings, counseling may be the healing experience your child/teen needs.  Counseling provides a nurturing environment for identifying and exploring emotions, processing automatic negative thoughts (ANTS), learning coping skills for decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety, role-playing effective communication skills and social skills, and reprocessing trauma . . . just to name a few!

Counseling with children and teens is best approached as a family with active involvement from parents/caregivers.  This may include participation in the session with your child/teen, or assisting your child/teen with practicing skills learned in the office at home.
